SonicCouture Glass Works KONTAKT SonicCouture Glass Works KONTAKT DVDR | 4.58 GB Soniccouture has released Glass Works, a Kontakt player instrument which collects together 3 extremely unusual and rare musical instruments which use glass to generate sound: Le Cristal, The Glass Armonica, and a set of Cloud Chamber Bowls. Just locating these instruments was a challenge in itself – the third in the collection, Cloud Chamber Bowls, proved so elusive that after a lot of research and enquiries, we realised that if we wanted to sample some, we would have to build a set ourselves. The first two instruments – both as strange and beautiful as each other – required us to make a trip to Paris. When beginning to research the Glass / Works instruments, we found that one name was ubiquitous; that of Thomas Bloch. A classical musician specialising in rare instruments, Thomas is a virtuoso who has worked with many famous names – Radiohead, Gorrilaz, John Cage, Tom Waits, and Milos Foreman to name very few. He is best known for 3 instruments – Ondes Martenot, the Cristal Baschet and the Glass Armonica. [RE-POST]

We contacted Thomas, and to our delight, he agreed to work with us. We travelled to Paris, and down a quiet street in the freezing January weather, we found Thomas Bloch. Working in his garden studio, we spent the next few days exploring the amazing range of sounds stored within. Soniccouture would like to thank Thomas once again for his hospitality in Paris. Glass / Works is a Kontakt player instrument which collects together 3 extremely unusual and rare musical instruments which use glass to generate sound : Le Cristal Baschet, The Glass Armonica, and a set of Cloud Chamber Bowls. Le Cristal Baschet: A bizarre ‘sound sculpture’ designed in 1952 by Bernard and François Baschet. It consists of about 4 octaves of chromatically tuned glass rods, which are rubbed with wet fingers. The vibration of the glass is passed to a heavy block of metal, which itself is tuned and in fact determines the final pitch. The entire mechanism is amplified by a large steel plate, called the “flame”. There are also three small fiberglass cones that amplify the higher frequencies. The Glass Armonica: A musical instrument that uses a series of glass bowls or goblets graduated in size to produce musical tones by means of friction (instruments of this type are known as friction idiophones ). The instrument was invented by Benjamin Franklin, who called his invention the “armonica” after the Italian word for harmony. He worked with London glassblower Charles James to build one, and it had its world premiere in early 1762, played by Marianne Davies. Cloud Chamber Bowls: The Cloud Chamber Bowls are Soniccouture’s recreation of an instrument built in the 1950s by maverick American composer Harry Partch. It consists of hanging “bowls” which are sections of 12-gallon glass carboys. Both tops and bottoms of the carboys are used. Partch had 14 (later 13) bowls hanging from a large wooden frame he called a”tori”.

The name “Cloud Chamber Bowls” arose from the fact that Partch found the original tops and bottoms at a Radiation Laboratory at UC Berkeley in 1950. The bowls were originally used for cloud chambers used in tracing paths of subatomic particles. Recorded and produced by e-instruments in one of the best sounding studios in Germany famous for its disco and pop productions during the 70s, this ensemble excels in delivering beautifully warm, punchy and direct strings. You can even dial up a recreation of the legendary 60s string sound synonymous with countless Motown recordings. The Animator feature can take your productions into deeper territories. Working in a similar way as an arpeggiator, the Animator can instantly transform a chord into a groovy staccato, spiccato or pizzicato phrase, rhythmically riffing on your played chord. The Animator is also easily tweaked to create dynamic results via the intuitive interface. Unique to SESSION STRINGS, you can trigger the Animator with a chord played by one hand, and then create an “unanimated” melody or further chords on the other hand. Cavaquinho – This is a small 4 stringed Brazilian guitar used in popular music such as samba, Choro and Bossa Nova as well as many other styles. Sampled with a flesh and nail attack of the finger. As I typically do……. there is a flesh program only, nail only and then a velocity switch program switching between the two. Also there is a Velocity cross fade program which subtly fade the over ring of the flesh attack into the nail attack. This creates a bit of chorusing effect which gives it a bit of a shimmering quality. This instrument is played both by strumming chords as well as playing single note melody lines. Darbuka loops & hits at @ 106 bpm – Hits are mapped F1 – G#3, the loops are on keys C4 – D5 (white keys only). Darbuka loops & hits at @ 113 bpm – This is the same drum as above with loops at 113 bpm. Single hits are mapped from F1 – G#3 as above, however the loops are mapped to keys E5 – A6 (white keys only). Didgeridoo loops – I’ve categorized these loops into 3 categories: smooth loops, rhythmic loops and barking loops. They are all first presented mapped across the keyboard at their original pitch. Then they are presented in their separate categories with various mappings. MW=mix programs use the modulation wheel to mix between different samples. Duduk – The Mey is the Turkish name, Duduk the Armenian term. The essential feature of this wind instrument is a short cylindrical tube with 7 or more finger holes and one thumb hole coupled to a very large flattened grass reed, with some sort of adjustable “bridle” affixed to the reed. Several sizes are found, tube lengths ranging from 6 or 7 inches to over 16 inches. You’ll recognize this instrument if you are familiar with Peter Gabriel’s “Passion”, the soundtrack to The Last Temptation of Christ. The program duduk no vibrato is a basic map of all the samples. Brighter Samples is a keymap of just the brighter sounding samples. This will give you a smoother sound but will actually be a bit less realistic to the instrument. Duduk vibrato is a keymap of all notes sample with vibrato, they are then combined into a velocity switch program between vibrato and non-vibrato articulations. Kalimba – For this set I’ve sampled the same kalimba (thumb piano) with both a dynamic microphone as well as a condensor. These two versions are then combined into a velocity switch program. Lakota Flutes – Here I’ve sampled a big and a smaller Native American Lakota Flutes. Both flutes were recorded with and without vibrato. Switching between these two articulations is also programmed with by a velocity switch. There are a few samples labeled phrases (C2 – C3) – these are riffs and bends which you can insert into a sequence if they seem appropriate. Yamaha Motif ES 8 (Kontakt) Osx & Win .dmg Yamaha Motif ES 8 (Kontakt) Osx & Win | 7.07 GB This is the complete Yamaha Motif ES 8 for [Kontakt] i have been using Kontakt 4 but it worked fine with version before I upgraded will also work in Mac and Windows you will need about 10gigs of free space. to install all you have to do is unarchive the dmg file and drag the Motif folder into your Kontakt Library but you choose to place it in another location that will work just fine i just like keeping everything simple and as easy to access as possible throughout this month i will upload another 15 to 20 synths & industry certified drum kits for kontakt, battery, reason and the Logic EXS24 sampler.

Tonehammer Alien Drum KONTAKT DVDR-DYNAMiCS Tonehammer Alien Drum KONTAKT DVDR | 475MB The Alien Drum (aka Hang Drum – trademarked by Pan Art) is a unique tone based percussion instrument, which is almost impossible to come by, since there is only one maker in the world and less than 1000 drums in circulation. The instrument has a soft, sorrowful, melancholic tone to it and is a perfect companion for emotional or ambient type of scores. The Tonehammer Alien Drum is unique in the sense it was recorded at an average of 15 velocity layers and with 10 round-robin repetitions pr. layer/note, so you will never experience any repetition in the articulation. We used custom microphone set-ups to capture the delicate resonance both inside and outside the drum, since the resonance defines the true sound of the drum. Additionally we sampled multiple playing techniques with fingers, palm, slaps, hand brushing and the back-side of the drum, which has the similar properties to the Udu. Multiple versions of all multis allow for a variety of ways to switch or fade between articulations while playing.
